Failing to turn on

A washing machine not turning on is a frequently encountered fault for many homeowners. First, what you’ll want to do is check the plug socket for any issues. This could be as simple as the plug not being all the way into the socket, or as complex as the fuse of the plug breaking.

Second, determine if the outlet causes the fault by trying to connect another device to the same socket.

Next try the control board, or even the power cable for the appliance, could be a problem. It is recommended that you contact an expert qualified to determine the fault in this instance.

Water doesn’t drain or enter

Another issue that can arise with your washing machine is an inability to drain properly or enter the machine. When your washing machine’s cycle has finished, you may find that there is excess water in the bottom of the drum. You may also be able to hear water running but it isn’t draining or going into the machine.

First check the pipes by removing the plug from the machine. Check that the hose is without hindrance. Make sure to check for coins, lint, keys, loose socks etc in the hose. Next check the drain pump for small items or clothing that may be obstructing the impeller.

Too much noise

Washing machines are bound to generate some noise when they fire up. But, if there is excessive noise, it could signify an issue. If you’ve washed large items like a blanket or sneakers, it can make lots of noise in the drum due to an unbalanced load. Try spreading loads evenly and see if that makes less noise in the drum. If the device continues to make sound, it could be due to damage to the drum bearing. Worn bearings in a washing machine make lots of noise. It could also be due to a broken motor mount in the machine.

Water leaks

You might come into the kitchen or utility room after a wash cycle and notice a pool of water coming from your washing machine. A water leak in your washing machine may be as a result from a blocked or damaged drain pipe, a water intake valve is damaged, or there is damage to the seal causing a door leak. First, turn off unplug your washing machine before checking for faults or blockages. Check the drain hose and make adjustments if required. If the draining hose is clean, the door seal or entry valve might be the cause.

Drum doesn’t rotate

If your washing machine drum or motor is broken, worn, or damaged you may notice laboured spinning or no spin at all on certain or all washing machine settings. As with any repair, make sure to unplug the appliance first and foremost. If the issue is with the washing machine’s belt you can use the washer’s manual to guide, you in fixing it. If it appears to be another issue or you’re unsure feel free to call an engineer from Square Repairs

Clothes damaged or aren’t properly cleaned

If you’ve opened your washing machine after a wash and noticed that your gym gear still smells or there’s no fresh fragrance you may want to inspect your washing machine.

First, check the detergent tray for blockages because if the detergent isn’t able to reach your clothes, your machine won’t be able to wash properly. To add to this, if there is a blockage, eventually detergent, germs and even mould will build up and transfer onto your laundry.

This will also happen if the filter is clogged, or the drainage pipe is blocked. There might also be a timer issue preventing the clothes from being cleaned for the requisite time needed to complete the washing cycle.
