Sometimes fridge and freezer issues are just down to improper or incorrect use, so we thought we’d compile this list of five common fridge-freezer faults that you can use for troubleshooting before you call in our appliance experts for professional advice.
Please be aware though that it is not advisable to tinker with the inner workings of a fridge-freezer unless you are qualified to do so, because they use extremely high electricity voltage, which is stored even after the appliance is switched off.
Fridge-Freezer Isn’t Cold
Something might be wrong if your fridge isn't keeping food as cold as it should. You might notice food going bad sooner, or the fridge-freezer just doesn't feel cold when you open the door. If your fridge isn't cooling down, there are a few things you can check.
First, make sure that the door can close properly by rearranging your fridge items. If the door is closing properly, then you can check the rubber seal around the door to make sure that it is not letting warm air in. You can also check the temperature dial to make sure that it is not set too high.
Frost Accumulation
When frost builds up in your fridge-freezer, it can cause a few different problems. It can make the drawers hard to open, and it also takes up space so you can't fit as much food inside. Frost can also prevent proper airflow and hinder cooling.
Excessive frost build-up can be caused by a faulty defrost timer, a damaged door seal, or a clogged drain line. If the defrost timer is not working properly, the defrost cycle may not run at all, or it may not run often enough. This will allow the frost to build up more quickly. If the door seal is damaged, warm air can enter the fridge-freezer, which will also cause the frost to build up more quickly.
Finally, if the drain line is clogged, the melted frost will not be able to drain, and it will eventually freeze and turn into a solid block of ice.
Running double time
Our fridge-freezer might be working overtime if it's struggling to maintain the desired temperature. This is almost always caused by a faulty thermostat, blocked vents, or a lack of refrigerant liquid. A faulty thermostat can be caused by a build- up of dust or dirt, or by a power surge. Blocked vents can be caused by food or ice buildup. A lack of refrigerant liquid can be caused by a leak in the system.
Simple fixes include making sure there is a gap between the wall and the back of your fridge-freezer, allowing for proper ventilation. You should also check the thermostat to make sure it is set to the correct temperature.

Water Leakage
If you notice water inside your fridge-freezer, it could be a sign of a problem. One possibility is that the defrost drain is clogged. This drain is responsible for removing excess water that forms when the fridge-freezer defrosts. If it's blocked, water can back up and leak into the fridge-freezer.
Another potential cause is a faulty door seal. The seal is the rubber gasket that goes around the fridge-freezer door. Its job is to keep warm air out and cold air in. If the seal is damaged or not sealing properly, warm air can enter the fridge, causing condensation to form. This condensation can then drip down and collect on the bottom of the fridge.
In some cases, water in the fridge can be a sign of a more serious problem, such as a freezer that's not freezing properly or a build-up of condensation. Both of these issues can affect the temperature inside the fridge and cause water to form. If you suspect a temperature issue, it's best to call one of our qualified engineers on 01608 658077 or 07901 306437 to take a look.
